TikTok Shop product image size and requirements

TikTok Shop asks for nine square images, a pure white main shot and a different angle in every frame. The rules are stricter than Shopify's and closer to Amazon's. Every requirement, and how to plan the nine slots.

Short answer: upload square images, at least 600 x 600 pixels, up to nine per listing, with one chosen as the main image. The main image has to show the front of the product on a pure white background. No image may carry an added logo, text, border, watermark or graphic, in front of the product or behind it. Every image must show a different angle, must be in color, and must show the real product rather than a render or a placeholder.

TikTok Shop sits between Shopify and Amazon. Shopify lets you upload almost anything. Amazon polices the main image closely. TikTok polices all nine.

What TikTok Shop requires

From TikTok's own Product Listing Policy for the United States:

  • Up to nine square images, one of which must be selected as the main product image.
  • The main image must show the front physical view of the product, on a pure white background, as an objective and straightforward representation of what is for sale.
  • The other images must show the front, back, sides and other details, including accessories. They can also show key features, usage scenarios, variations, styled scenes, close-ups and size comparisons.
  • No repeats. Multiple images showing the same angle are not allowed.
  • Nothing added. No logos, text, borders, watermarks or graphics covering the product or in the background. That applies to every image, not only the main one.
  • At least 600 x 600 pixels.
  • Color only. Black and white images are not acceptable.
  • Real products only. Placeholders and digital renderings are not allowed, and images must include only what the customer will receive.
  • One video per listing, up to 5 MB.

600 pixels is a floor, not a target

Nothing stops you uploading an image at exactly the minimum, and nothing good comes of it either. A 600 pixel square looks soft the moment a shopper taps to enlarge it, and TikTok Shop traffic is almost entirely phone traffic on high-resolution screens.

Export at 1600 to 2000 pixels square. That is the same range that suits Amazon and Etsy, so one export covers every channel you sell on.

Planning the nine slots

The no-repeated-angles rule turns the gallery into a checklist. A set that uses all nine without repeating itself:

  1. Main: the front, pure white background, nothing added
  2. A 45 degree angle
  3. The back, including the label
  4. One side
  5. A close-up of texture, finish or stitching
  6. Scale, next to a hand or a familiar object
  7. The product in use
  8. What comes in the box
  9. A styled scene for the feed

Nine slots, a different angle in each. Only the first has a required background. These examples come from several products.

The rule that catches people out

Amazon bans text and logos on the main image. TikTok bans them on all of them.

That rules out the badge overlays most sellers add to secondary images: "50% off", "free shipping", a size chart with arrows, a logo in the corner. Infographic-style slides that work on Amazon will not pass here. Say it with the photograph instead: show the size next to a familiar object rather than labelling it.

Getting a white main image without a studio

The main image is the one with a hard requirement, and a pure white background is harder to shoot than it looks. Our white background guide covers the sweep and the lighting, and the phone guide covers the window setup.

If you would rather not reshoot, BrandShots takes one clean photo and returns the white main image plus the styled frames for the other slots, square and sized for the listing, with your real product as the source. That last part matters here, because TikTok has a separate policy on AI visuals: see what TikTok Shop allows for AI images.

What size should TikTok Shop product images be?

Square, at least 600 x 600 pixels. Export at 1600 to 2000 pixels square so the images hold up when a shopper zooms, and so the same file works on Amazon and Etsy.

Does TikTok Shop require a white background?

For the main image, yes: it must be pure white and show the front of the product. The other eight can use styled scenes, usage shots and close-ups.

How many images can a TikTok Shop listing have?

Up to nine, plus one video of no more than 5 MB. Every image has to show a different angle, so plan the set rather than uploading nine variations of the same shot.

Common mistakes

  • Text and badges on secondary images. Allowed on Amazon, not here.
  • The same angle twice. It is an explicit violation, not a style choice.
  • Uploading at the 600 pixel floor. It looks soft on the phones your buyers use.
  • A rendering instead of a photo. The policy asks for the real product, including only what ships.
  • A black and white hero. It will not pass, however good it looks.
